Isshinryu Neuro-Motor Training
We're not trying to scare you… Well, OK, maybe we are…
There is a general decline in senior wellness across the United States. Falls are the leading cause of injury-related deaths for people over 65 — and that rate has increased by 60% in the last decade. Nearly three million seniors per year are treated for fall-related injuries.
Sadly, 30% of seniors who visit the ER for fall-related injuries are no longer alive within a year. Contributing factors include reduced physical fitness and declining cognitive function. Many of the challenges associated with aging can be significantly reduced through the right kind of proactive activity.
The earlier you start, the better. If you are over fifty and not currently engaging both your body and your brain, you will face greater risk of age-related injuries and health challenges down the road. You can play an active role in holding off those risks.
What Is Isshinryu NeuroMotor Training?
INM Training is a low-impact program designed specifically for people over fifty to support improved health, brain function, and wellbeing. The program combines the best elements of ancient Okinawan traditional movement forms with the most current research in neuromotor functioning and brain-body training for seniors — to improve longevity and quality of life.
This program, introduced first here in Nashville, is built around foundational Isshinryu katas and Pilates exercises — specifically designed to develop muscle mass, core strength, balance, endurance, proper breathing, and cognitive function. The ancient masters understood the benefits of these practices long before modern science confirmed them.
Isshinryu NeuroMotor Training Is:
Designed for seniors, delivered by seniors — promoting a proactive approach to our aging minds and bodies. These methods have proven effective in supporting quality of life as we age.
Not a traditional martial arts belt program — there is no sparring, grappling, or contact unless that is what you specifically request. Traditional self-defense and belt programs are available separately for those who want them. We work within your personal goals.
A system that combines the wisdom of an ancient art, Pilates movement, and current scientific research — designed to improve your physical and brain health while avoiding the injuries that affect so many older adults.
Additional Options
We also offer additional tiers of engagement for those interested in self-defense or a Black Belt program designed specifically for seniors. This is entirely optional and separate from INM Training.
Note: The NeuroMotor Training center referenced in linked videos is located in Upstate New York. These specific services are not yet offered in Nashville — however, the curriculum for the program offered here is derived from documented results from various exercises and methods used at that location.
You've spent your life investing in your family, your business, your marriage, your home, your portfolio. Now it's time to invest in yourself — so you can enjoy your senior years to their fullest.
